Juan Carlos’ experience includes radio, television, and authorship. A seasoned and well-respected journalist, he currently works as the national correspondent for Univision Communications, Inc., the leading Spanish language content, and media company in the U.S.


Juan Carlos began his broadcasting career in 1988 in San Antonio, Texas. While still in college, he worked at KRIA Radio Alegria and Telemundo 60 TV station as anchor and correspondent. A year later, when KRIA changed its format, he accepted a position as anchor for KCOR, one of the nations first full-time, Spanish-language radio stations. In 1990 he moved to Dallas, Texas where he worked at Cadena Radio Centro (CRC), as host, producer, and news editor at the first Spanish language radio network in the U.S. The same company offered him a position in the #1 Hispanic market of Los Angeles, California, where he worked first as reporter and then as assistant news director.

Radio has been a big part of Juan Carlos’ life.  He has worked as a newscaster with renowned radio personalities such as Pepe Barreto, Humberto Luna, and El Cucuy de la Mañana, where he produced, researched, and read news on the air.

In 1994, Juan Carlos was hired by the Telemundo Internacional flagship station in Los Angeles as a correspondent. Soon after, in 2000, he was promoted to national correspondent for Telemundo Network, now owed by NBC Universal. During his tenure at Telemundo, he traveled the country extensively, reporting historic events, including the Oklahoma bombing in 1995, various presidential elections, and other important news.  He remained with Telemundo as a national correspondent until 2011.

Furthermore, from 2012 until now Juan Carlos has established himself as a leading journalist through his exemplary coverage as a national correspondent for TelevisaUnivision, Inc Co. His responsibilities include content for Noticiero Nacional Univision, Primer Impacto, and Despierta America; national coverage prime time shows. All in all, TelevisaUnivison, Inc & Co., “reaches over 100 million Spanish speakers every day, holding leading positions in the two largest Spanish speaking markets in the world” ¹: the United States and Mexico.

Juan Carlos’ versatility is not limited to news, he produces, hosts, and writes extensively. He also narrated play-by-play for Fox Sports in Spanish including basketball (Lakers), baseball (Angels) and football (NFL). Along the same lines, he currently narrates and writes content for various TelevisaUnivision, Inc & Co. digital platforms.

Recently, Juan Carlos wrote “¿Por qué lo Hiciste, Hijo?”, a heartfelt and deeply personal book that narrates his and his family’s experience through the loss of a son due to suicide. With this new venture, he strives to shed light into the drug abuse epidemic, signs, and red flags that parents and family members need to be aware of, and other testimonials of how such painful moments can be transformative in the lives of those who experience them. Juan Carlos hopes to bring awareness to this difficult, yet very real topic by walking readers through his family’s experience and resilience.
